When the original QX50 (then called the EX35) first appeared in 2008, it set the standard for small luxury crossover vehicles. Now eight years later, the INFINITI QX50 is once again raising the bar for the other carmakers. The newly redesigned 2016 INFINITI QX50 has a longer wheelbase, more cargo space, better design features, and improved rear seat legroom. In fact, just about the only thing that hasn’t changed about the new INFINITI QX50 is its stylish good looks.

Although it’s longer and sleeker, there’s no mistaking the stylishly elegant profile of the QX50. It’s this ruggedly handsome exterior that captures the essence of what the QX50 is all about. The new 2016 model carries forward all of the panache of the previous version, but with even more substance and style. It sits more than six inches higher, and as such it offers an even better view of the road. It also still carries one of the most powerful engines in the category.

What We Love About the New 2016 QX50

The QX50 has been called the original “personal crossover” for its compact size and intimate driving experience. With its new updated styling and increased capacity, the QX50 is still a very personal luxury crossover, but now with room to spare. The overall interior volume has been increased by more than 8 cubic feet, including nearly 3 cubic feet of extra cargo space. That’s to go along with the additional 4.3 inches of legroom that rear seat passengers will enjoy.

When considering improvements the engineers at INFINITI didn’t leave out any details, providing updates to the interior features as well. Things like standard premium leather seating with heated front seats are a nice inclusion. Updated interior accents like textured aluminum trim and an updated center stack console add to the luxury feel. Available packages include Premium, Premium Plus, Deluxe Touring and a Technology Package.

Better Looking, Better Driving…. Simply Better

The substantial power of the QX50 is still present in this new model, with a 3.7-liter V6 providing an exciting 325-horsepower. A 7-speed automatic with Downshift Rev Matching and Adaptive Shift Control is part of the standard package. Standard rear-wheel or available Intelligent All-wheel Drive completes the impressive performance features.

While the previous QX50 models have been generous in their amenities, both standard and available, this new 2016 INFINITI QX50 promises to have even more goodies. We have already seen the updates to its visual cues, and the technology package is likely to include more convenience and safety features than ever before. This is quite simply the new standard for other manufacturers of luxury crossovers to emulate.
