2017 INFINITI Q30INFINITI Q30

The unveiling of the all-new INFINITI Q30 at the 2015 Frankfurt Auto Show was expected, but no less exciting. This first entry by INFINITI into the compact luxury market has been getting worldwide attention in the media recently, and rightly so. It is not only the first INFINITI compact, but the first INFINITI vehicle to be designed in Europe and built under the joint partnership with Mercedes-Benz. As such, it shares a platform with the A-Class CLA sedan from the German car-maker – which is a very interesting concept.

Challenging the convention of typical sedans, hatchbacks and crossovers, the INFINITI Q30 is designed to appeal to a new generation of car buyers who aren’t influenced by stereotypes. The new Q30 is a bold design that fuses the best aspects of different body styles into a unique and clearly appealing image. It has a large hatch opening that could be attributed to a crossover or hatchback, but a lower profile that more closely resembles a sedan.

INFINITI Q30 Features

As a vehicle that shares certain components with Mercedes-Benz, the INFINITI Q30 has features that are not shared with other current INFINITI vehicles. One of these is the 2.0-liter jointly-designed 4-cylinder engine that delivers 208 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. It also comes equipped with an optional 6-speed manual transmission, as well as the standard 7-speed automatic. Front struts and rear multi-link suspension are similar to its A-Class cousin, but are specially tuned by INFINITI to accommodate the larger 18-inch or optional 19-inch wheels.

Inside the cockpit is where the INFINITI Q30 shows its luxury heritage. This may be a compact vehicle, but it’s an INFINITI luxury compact, after all. The surfaces are soft-touch, the trim immaculate, and the quality materials are both modern and classically luxurious. It’s obvious that no compromises were made simply because this happens to be a compact vehicle.

INFINITI Q30 Appearance

Although European designed, the INFINITI influence is still clearly apparent in the long and sweeping flow of the Q30’s hood. The generous curves seem to pour forth, and carry themselves along the sculpted sides, in a way somewhat resembling the QX60’s gracious curves. The bold dorsal lines are exaggerated, but serve to accentuate the organic fluidity of the body styling. From the front, the Q30 has a daring, almost sinister look. The grill is classic INFINITI, although stylized and unique, while the headlamps are aggressively swept back.

The 2016 INFINITI Q30 is expected to go on sale later this year in selected markets.
