Even before Detroit’s 2017 North American International Auto Show, INFINITI was eager to show the world its latest concept. The QX50 Concept is a concept car quite unlike any other. Unlike most concept cars whose designs contain elements that will show up in the not-too-distant future but that will likely never appear as fully-fleshed out vehicles fresh off the production lines, the INFINITI QX50 is expected to closely mirror the 2018 model year release. First introduced as the QX Sport Inspiration Concept in 2016 in Beijing, the upcoming 2018 version is expected to look much like that initial offering.

The current INFINITI QX50 is enjoying a substantial surge in sales with an increase of 272 percent compared to last year’s figures. The new 2018 INFINITI QX50 – which is both larger and stylistically more attractive than the current model – is expected to be well received in the United States.
What to Expect With the New 2018 INFINITI QX50
At first look, the 2018 INFINITI QX50 is notable for its swooping lines and gentle curves. However, it is those features that are inside its cabin and under the hood that make the QX50 a sure crowd pleaser upon its release in 2018.
Innovative INFINITI QX50 Engine Trumps Fuel Economy Projections
A cornerstone of the 2018 INFINITI QX50 is its innovative variable compression engine. Though it appears – at least initially – that the QX50 is outfitted with a standard 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbocharged engine, its innovation lies in the fact that the engine is designed to change the compression ratios within a range of 8:1 to 14:1.
What this equates to is that the higher the compression rate, the better the fuel economy. In addition to providing 268 horsepower coupled with 288 lb-ft of torque INFINITI boasts that the new QX50 will be 27 percent more efficient than comparable vehicles. This vehicle will be able to automatically adjust its engine compression ratio to meet the needs of the situation with an eye toward fuel economy.
Other 2018 INFINITI QX50 Innovations
In addition to an innovative engine concept, the upcoming 2018 INFINITI QX50 is expected to include technology that makes it a semi-autonomous vehicle. While the concept of self-driving cars is exciting, the current landscape has made the issues of such technology all too clear. INFINITI delivers an exciting feature that is the perfect mix of the two: its semi-autonomous ProPilot system. With this system in place, the QX50 can keep the vehicle inside its lane, stop and accelerate for the driver, and maintain the ideal safe distance from the vehicle in front of it.
Once again, INFINITI leads the auto industry with its forward-thinking technology that the automaker is bringing to the vehicles of today. With an eye on those factors that are most important to drivers – safety and fuel economy – the 2018 INFINITI QX50 sets the bar high.
