QX Concept Car

INFINITI’s popular QX line of luxury crossover vehicles is about to get bigger. At a 2016 car show in Beijing, INFINITI unveiled their new QX Sport Inspiration concept car, which, with a few changes, company executives plan to take to full production mode in the future. Rumors say this new, updated vehicle could replace the compact QX50, while others predict the slightly larger SUV will claim a spot between the QX50 and the larger QX60.

In 2015, total sales of new crossovers increased by 22 percent, with surprisingly high demand from emerging countries like China. Still, the affordable QX50 only has about a 3 percent market share, giving INFINITI plenty of room for growth. Let’s take a look at the new QX Sport Inspiration concept vehicle to see if it can win you over.

The Exterior Design

INFINITI put their international team of designers to work to come up with a bigger, boxier SUV that would appeal to mid-sized SUV buyers while still offering all the elegance and performance INFINITI is known for. Key features include shorter wheel overhangs, a full panoramic glass roof, and an innovative engine configuration that allows for a roomier cabin.

A Sportier Look and Feel Inside

While the outside of the new QX Sport Inspiration is eye-catching, sports car fans will appreciate the body-hugging interior design. The curved console and dash create a cockpit-like effect that begs the driver to take hairpin turns at top speed instead of bumping along a rut-filled, off-road trail. Seats and other surfaces are appointed in white and black leather, and electronics include a digital display and touch screen technology. Other than a few buttons on the steering wheel, the interior surfaces are completely smooth, imparting an exciting, high-tech appearance.

What Will the Production Model Be Like?

It’s too early to tell, but industry analysts expect INFINITI to keep most of the concept model’s exterior design as-is, but change the inside to include more traditional features like those that already come with the current QX line. If INFINITI decides to put this model between the QX50 and QX60 in their lineup, they may make it slightly longer. Even though the QX Sport Inspiration is described as bigger, boxier and roomier, it measures in at five inches shorter than the compact QX50.
