2017 INFINITI Q60 Coupe

The Detroit Auto Show gave motoring enthusiasts their first look at the highly anticipated 2017 INFINITI Q60 Coupe. Ahead of its official release, here are the things we already know about this sporty new coupe.

Edgy New Look

The INFINITI Q60 Coupe is set to replace 2008’s G37 coupe, which in turn superseded the G35 coupe INFINITI released in 2002. It seems INFINITI has learned a lot since launching that early sports car about what motorists want. The Q60 Coupeis lower and wider than its predecessors, which gives it a more aggressive image. This look is complemented by round exhaust outlets, crescent-shaped C-pillars, and INFINITI’s iconic double-arch grille. Shiny 19-inch aluminium alloy wheels come as standard.

The contoured hood looks the business, but its appeal goes beyond the aesthetic. The sleek design cuts wind resistance, while vents on the front fenders improve the flow of air exiting the engine bay. The gleaming LED headlights feature Light Guide technology for easier night driving.

Improved Performance

The Q60 Coupe takes its mechanical cues from INFINITI’s Q50 Sedan. There are a selection of powertrains, starting from the entry-level model with a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, which creates 208 horsepower and 258 lb-ft oftorque. It’s estimated this will get an average of 24 miles per gallon.

For a little more grunt, look to the gutsy 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 motor. It’ll be offered in two states of tune. The 300 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque option should please most motorists, but if you want real muscle, choose theoption that delivers 400 horsepower and 350 lb-ft of torque. You don’t lose out too much on fuel economy with these beefier engines; INFINITI estimates the 300 hp model will get 23 miles per gallon, and the 400 hp model will deliver 22 miles per gallon.

INFINITI will release a seven-speed automatic with your choice of rear- or all-wheel drive. Technologies like Direct Adaptive Steering, Dynamic Digital Suspension, and a Drive Mode Selector make the Q60 Coupe a dream to drive. Early buzzsuggests INFINITI has listened to criticism of the Direct Adaptive Steering system including with the Q50 sedan. The technology has been revamped for the Q60 Coupe; it’s now set to deliver greater feedback and directness. Rack Electronic Power Steering, which looks to provide more linear assistance, is also brand new.

The base suspension has also been revamped, with relocated shock absorbers and modified shock tuning and bushings among the new improvements. Digital Dynamic Suspension with adaptive dampers should appeal to motorists opting for the Sporttrim, where the performance technology comes as standard. Stiffer crossmembers for improved performance will benefit all Q60 Coupe drivers.

More Comfortable Drive

When you’re buying a coupe, the creature comforts really matter. INFINITI delivers here too, with a more sophisticated interior than the G37. Aluminium trim or black wood are standard options, but the Sport and Premium models promise moresophisticated carbon fiber highlights for most motorists and silver glass fiber details for those opting for white or red leather seats.

INFINITI’s InTuition infotainment system is a welcome addition to the cabin. This clever system allows motorists to customize the cabin temperature, seating positions, navigation, and audio-visual settings for their ideal drivingexperience.
INFINITI’s signature Cosseting spinal support seats helps you stay comfortable in the saddle on road trips and other long drives. The 13-speaker Bose performance series sound system with customized acoustics sounds magic. It works well with INFINITI’s active noise cancellation technology, which allows you to feel like you’re traveling in a bubble of your favorite tunes.
